Nutrition and Cancer Care
Penny Brohn Cancer Care, at Pill, just south of Bristol, provide complimentary care and support for people living with cancer through what they term ‘The Bristol Approach’.
The Bristol Approach, developed by doctors, nurses, therapists and people with cancer, is a unique combination of complementary therapies and self-help techniques. It is designed to work alongside medical treatment and is supported by leading oncologists and others in the healthcare field.
Food and nutrition play a key part in their work, via a nutritional support programme. The aim of a nutritional support programme for cancer is two-fold: to replenish missing nutrients and to help rid the body of toxins. Their website provides information on subjects from the benefits of an organic diet, to the health benefits of tea and examples of anti-cancer phytonutrients which have valuable antioxidant activity and can enhance immune function.
Penny Brohn are running 2 new courses open to both people living with cancer and supporters, using their new demonstration kitchen and large dining room.
This course covers the underlying principles behind the Penny Brohn healthy eating guidelines and how to put them into practice. Simple yet delicious recipes will be demonstrated and a range of new and unusual ingredients will be introduced with explanations of how they fit into a healthy eating programme.
In this course participants will learn how food affects not only the physical body but also the mind and the spirit. It will cover the importance of the dining surroundings and eating in a calming environment, as well as encouraging a deeper connection with food. The focus of the day is on foods that provide a feel-good factor and a selection of delicious healing recipes will be demonstrated.
