The Royal Bath and West's

King and Queen of Pies

The ‘King’ and ‘Queen’ of pies beat off stiff competition to be crowned victorious in Royal Bath & West’s Royal Pies competition, which culminated with a tasty contest hosted at Lakeland's Bath store.

The two pies –a traditional Somerset pie created by Zaida Haworth of the Somerset Rural Life Museum and a locally sourced venison and juniper pie created by Graeme Barry of the Whitehart Inn in Trudoxhill, were put to the taste test by an esteemed judging panel including The Mayor of Bath and the Royal Bath & West’s chief executive, Jane Guise.

The winning bakers will receive an exclusive prize worth £500 from Lakeland and family tickets to the show to see the Festival of Baking in action.

Headlining The Festival of Baking at the Bath and West Show will be Baker Boy Edd Kimber, former winner of The Great British Bake Off.  Edd will kick-start 4 days of expert baking demonstrations and talks from some of the country’s best bakers.

Jane Guise, chief executive for the Royal Bath and West Show, said: “As we have been given the Royal seal of approval, we thought that it is only fitting to honour the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year by launching a pie competition fit for royalty.  I can certainly say that our winners were very deserving.

“This year promises to bring much excitement and entertainment at the nation’s most popular agricultural county show. Food is one of the major attractions for visitors and we hope that our baking festival, sponsored by Lakeland, will provide another platform to promote the show’s foodie credentials. ”

The show’s organisers hope the baking festival will appeal to the taste buds and enthusiasm of the thousands who descend on the Royal Bath & West Show every year. Last year the show enjoyed visitor numbers of more than 160,000, with many enjoying the delights of the vast food halls filled with some of the region’s top award-winning food producers.
